// The short version

No accounts, no tracking, no ads in the app.

SyncCrate is free and open source. The website may earn a small commission through store links on the game guides. Here is exactly what that means, and what the site and the app do.

// 01 Store links

Affiliate links

Game guides can have a Get <game> link to GOG or Green Man Gaming. These are affiliate links: if you buy something after following one, the store may pay SyncCrate a small commission. You pay the same price.

  • Affiliate links are marked as sponsored (rel="sponsored") and sit next to a note that says so.
  • Which stores are linked has no influence on what a guide says. Guides describe what SyncCrate syncs and how to fix mod problems, and they're the same with or without store links.
  • The SyncCrate app never shows ads or store links.
  • Only official stores and their affiliate programs are used, never grey-market key resellers.

Privacy on the website

  • No cookies, no accounts, no ad or tracking scripts.
  • The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes requests (including your IP address) to deliver the pages and protect them from abuse. Visit statistics come from Cloudflare Web Analytics: page views counted without cookies, fingerprinting or personal data, so there is no consent banner.
  • Game covers on the guides load from the Steam store's image servers (or the publisher's), and the Download buttons ask GitHub which file is the latest release. Your browser contacts those servers directly; no referrer is sent with the images.
  • Fonts load from Google Fonts.
  • If you follow a store link, that store and its affiliate network see the click and set their own cookies, under their privacy policies.

What the SyncCrate app contacts

SyncCrate has no accounts and no telemetry. Your files go directly from one PC to another and are never uploaded to a SyncCrate server (there isn't one). It contacts:

  • Your friends' PCs, when you host or join. Over the internet this goes through iroh: directly when possible, otherwise through an encrypted relay that can't read your files.
  • GitHub, to check for app updates.
  • Steam's image servers (or the game publisher's), for game art. You can turn game art off in Settings.
  • Modrinth, Thunderstore and SMAPI, only when you click Check for updates on the Content page.

The source code is on GitHub, so all of this can be checked.
