// 01 Why

Why moving Tabletop Simulator tables is awkward

When you host a Tabletop Simulator game, the players who join get the table from you. That works until the host can't make it: a long campaign, a half-finished game of something heavy, or a table you've set up by hand only exists on one PC.

Moving your own library is its own chore. Saves and Workshop games are JSON files with thumbnails in the Tabletop Simulator folder in Documents, and it's easy to miss some.

SyncCrate syncs saves and the Workshop game files directly between PCs. Files are compared by content, only the differences are copied, and you see the list before anything changes.

Built in for Tabletop Simulator

  • Script warnings. .lua files run code on your PC, so they're flagged for you to review before they sync.
  • Turn mods on and off. Disabled mods move to a _Disabled folder the game doesn't load.
  • Game-running warning. SyncCrate warns you before syncing while Tabletop Simulator is still open.
  • Undo and history. Undo the last sync in one click, and put back any single file a sync replaced or deleted.

// 03 How it works

Sync Tabletop Simulator in three steps

  1. Install and add the game

    Install SyncCrate on every PC and add Tabletop Simulator in the Game Browser. Its folder is found automatically.

  2. One PC hosts

    The PC with the setup everyone should have clicks Start Hosting. The others pick it under Scan for Hosts on the same network, or paste its join code from anywhere.

  3. Compare and sync

    Check the list of new, changed and conflicting files, then Sync Now. Only the files that differ are copied, PC to PC.

TipClose Tabletop Simulator on the receiving PC before syncing. SyncCrate warns you if the game is still running.

// 04 Common problems

When Tabletop Simulator mods don't match

  • The host can't make it

    A campaign save only lives on the PC of whoever hosted it, so the group can't continue without them.

    Sync the save to whoever hosts next. It shows up with their own saves, ready to load and host.

  • A new PC without your library

    Your saves, saved objects and Workshop games are spread over folders in Documents.

    Sync both folders from the old PC and your library is back.

  • Two versions of one save

    If two people saved the same game after playing separately, the files clash.

    SyncCrate shows the conflict and lets you keep yours, use theirs or keep both.

  • Scripted tables

    Many Workshop games and saves include Lua scripts that run when the table loads.

    .lua files are flagged before they sync. Only sync with people you trust.

Good to know

  • Images and models aren't copied. Tables point to their images and models online, and each PC downloads them when the table loads. Only the table files sync.
  • Joining players don't need it. In a hosted game the host sends the table to everyone. SyncCrate is for when someone else needs to host, or for your own PCs.
  • DLC isn't copied. Tables from paid DLC need the DLC on the other PC.

Tabletop Simulator questions

Where are Tabletop Simulator saves stored?

On Windows in Documents\My Games\Tabletop Simulator\Saves, on a Mac in ~/Library/Tabletop Simulator/Saves and on Linux in ~/.local/share/Tabletop Simulator/Saves. SyncCrate finds it automatically.

How do I let a friend host our saved game?

Host SyncCrate on your PC, have your friend join and Compare & Sync the Saves folder. They load the save in Tabletop Simulator and host the game as usual.

Does it copy the images and 3D models?

No. Tabletop Simulator downloads them from their links when a table loads, so every PC fetches its own copy.

Do players need SyncCrate to join my game?
